The devastating fires that have burned throughout the western United States have done more than damage people’s homes, destroy livelihoods, and cause loss of life. These fires have also destroyed vast amounts of natural habitats and injured and killed wildlife in untold numbers. Some caring professionals from the UC-Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in partnership with the State of California’s Fish and Wildlife Department formed the Wildlife Disaster Network to treat wildlife injured in the 2020 California fires.

Ann Gimpel, my friend and a fellow author, lives in northern California, was heartbroken at the stories of injured animals. When she saw the news stories about WDN, she asked some of her author friends to donate a story, a novella, or a novel to an anthology. (BTW, she put together another charity anthology last year for the wildlife injured in the Australian wildfires!)

Check out the ABC news story on the WDN to see what they are doing to aid the injured animals: https://abc7news.com/pets-animals/new-program-rehabilitates-animals-burned-in-ca-wildfires/6984552/?fbclid=IwAR35DzKbOFwD1DcTVx1qrkDc-x2rZ4iuxEoXBExO5ZXn3VOl3_tsbGU3W_E

Hearts of Fire is the result. The anthology features 15 authors of urban fantasy, fantasy, paranormal romance, and fantasy romance. Individually, these authors’ contributions would retail for over $30. The anthology is being sold for $3.99. All the revenue received from the sale of this book will be donated to the WDN.

The on-sale date is November 18th, and will be sold for at most a four-month time period. So grab it soon!

Sometimes it is hard to know what to do when a natural disaster strikes. It is especially hard to know how to help when the victims are animals. The Hearts on Fire charitable anthology gives you the opportunity to help keep the good work of these wonderful veterinarians continue as they treat and heal the injured wildlife and then release them back into the wild.

Here are some images of what types of treatments the veterinarians are performing.
